Community Corner

Make a Difference!

The most meaningful thing you can share with another person is your time. The Hospice team of the Farmington Valley is seeking volunteers who are willing to use their time and talents to make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Volunteer assignments are based on your personal interests and availability. Whether you have an hour a month or several hours a week, your time and efforts would be welcomed and valued.

Opportunities for volunteering are abundant at the Farmington Valley VNA. Our office staff appreciates assistance with fundraising efforts, collating materials for a mailing, assembling welcome bags and bereavement baskets for caregivers, and representing the agency at community events. For those who enjoy being out and about, transporting materials to family membres, shopping for supplies for the baskets we assemble, and delivering memorial candles to funeral homes are valued services. Those who are comfortable working directly with Hospice clients offer important respite for caregivers and enrich the life of those with terminal illness when time is spent playing cards, sharing stories, looking at photographs, listening to music, and offering companionship.

The Hospice program operates on the philosophy of providing uncompromised levels of quality, client-centered care, and our Hospice volunteers offer tremendous support in our ability to fulfill our mission. No matter what your level of interest and ability, your presence and involvement enriches many lives, including your own.

Volunteer training sessions will be held at the Farmington Valley VNA office at 8 Old Mill Lane in Simsbury on Friday, November 8th and Saturday, November 9th. There is no charge for the training program, but pre-registration is required. For more information about becoming a Hospice volunteer with the Farmington Valley VNA, please contact Laura Perednia, LCSW, at 860.651.3539.

It doesn't take a lot of time to make a real difference! If you are over the age of 18, please call the Farmington Valley VNA at 860.651.3539 to learn more about opportunities for volunteering.
