They’re baaaaaaaaaccckk.

The field hockey team advanced to the state Class S title game Tuesday evening with a convincing 3-0 victory over No. 2 Nonnewaug in the semifinals in Wethersfield.

Haley Makuch, Morgan Malone and Emily Ohannessian scored and Leah Giuliano had an assist, as the Bears (16-1), the tournament's third seed, seek their third consecutive state title.

It’s the fifth straight year that Granby Memorial has appeared in the title game, winning four of those matches. The Bears were Class S runners up in 2008.

Granby Memorial goalkeeper Nicole Kuhnly had three saves, including two big ones in the second half to preserve a 2-0 lead, in earning her 14th clean sheet on the year and helping hand Nonnewaug (16-1-1), the Berkshire League champions, its first loss of the season.

The Bears are scheduled to face No. 4 Laurelton Hall (15-0-3-1) in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Wethersfield.

It's been total domination for Granby Memorial so far in the tournament, having outscored its opponents by a combined 11-0 in the three games it has played thus far, including a over Immaculate on Nov. 12.
