Malone's Hat Trick Lifts Granby Field Hockey into Class S Semifinals

Super sophomore scores three goals and Cailene Gunn and Leah Giuliano each added an assist as the Bears seek their third consecutive state title.

The field hockey team boldly marched into the state Class S semifinals with a convincing 3-0 victory over Immaculate-Danbury on Saturday.

Super sophomore Morgan Malone scored all three goals and Cailene Gunn and Leah Giuliano each had assists for the third-seeded Bears, who improved to 15-1 on the year.

As an indication of the Bears’ dominance, Granby earned 16 penalty corners to none for sixth-seeded Immaculate (13-4-1). What’s more, Granby goalkeeper Nicole Kuhnly wasn’t called on to make a save.

Granby, which is seeking its third consecutive state Class S title, is scheduled to play in the semifinals on Nov. 15 at a neutral site against the winner Saturday afternoon's quarterfinal match between No. 2 Nonnewaug (16-0-1) and No. 7 Stonington (12-5).
