More than a Consolation for Granby Memorial High Girls Basketball
Bears match their highest victory total ever in a season with a victory over Avon High in the NCCC tournament consolation game Thursday.

The girls basketball team did more than just place third in the NCCC tournament with its 37-26 victory over Avon High in the consolation game at Windsor Locks High Thursday.
Bears head coach Dean Godin said that his team tied its record high for victories in a season with 18.
“We played really well and played great defense,” Godin said of his team’s performance Thursday.
It’s been quite a year for Granby Memorial, which defeated Avon High for the second time this season in the NCCC tournament game. The two victories are believed to be the first and only two in program history over the Falcons, Godin said.
The Bears (18-5) will have an opportunity to set a new school standard for victories in a season, as they go for their first state Class M tournament victory in 10 years when they play Sacred Heart (10-10) on Feb. 27 at home. Granby Memorial is the tournament’s No. 8 seed, while Sacred Heart comes in at No. 25.
“It should be a good game,” Godin said. “It should be a challenge that’s for sure.”
