New Dates for East Granby Town Meeting, Referendum
The third Town Meeting and referendum will take place on June 7 and 14, respectively.

The following is a press release from the town of East Granby. Please note that the dates of the new Town Meeting and referendum have been changed to June 7 and June 14, respectively.
On Tuesday May 8, 2012 a referendum was held regarding the proposed 2012-2013 East Granby Annual Town Budget totaling $19,074,968, an overall increase of 3.2 percent over the current fiscal year. The budget was defeated by a margin of 590 against and 423 in favor. A second referendum was held on May 23, 2012 regarding a proposed budget of $18,911,568 or an increase of 2.3% and that was defeated by a vote of 577 against and 547 in favor. The Board of Finance convened immediately after the second Referendum and proposed a revised 2012-2013 budget of $18,848,666 or an increase of 1.99 percent over the current year’s expenditures. If passed, the Board of Finance projects a .3 mill increase in taxes or an increase of 1.1 percent. (I.e. - For a house assessed at $170,000, a 1.1 percent tax increase means that their tax bill would increase by approximately $50 next year. For a house assessed at approximately $350,000, a 1.1 percent increase would mean an increase of $100 on next year’s tax bill.
The Board of Selectman has called for a Town Meeting to be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the . At that meeting the Town boards will present the revised budget of $18,848,666 which will include funding of $4,218,000 for General Government, $14,040,000 for the Board of Education, $174,000 for Debt Service and $416,666 for the Capital Reserve Fund. After the presentation and a Q & A session, the Town Meeting will be adjourned without a vote to a machine ballot referendum called by the Board of Selectman for Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 6 am to 8 pm. The referendum will be held at the Town’s traditional polling place, the Senior & Community Center.
