O'Brien Endorsed by Democrats for Re-election in 61st District

Incumbent state Rep. Elaine C. O'Brien was unanimously endorsed for a second term by the delegates representing East Granby, Suffield and Windsor on Tuesday.

An enthusiastic group of Democratic delegates from Suffield, East Granby and Windsor gathered Tuesday night in Fire Station #2 in West Suffield to endorse a candidate for the 61st State Assembly district.

Incumbent state Rep. Elaine C. O’Brien was unanimously endorsed for a second term by the delegates present.

Suffield Selectman Eileen Moncrief highlighted O’Brien’s experience in education and her longtime dedication to public service through government service, plus her Masters degree in Public Administration in making the nomination.

In her acceptance speech, O’Brien spoke briefly about how quickly the last two years in office has passed. She was proud of her involvement in the successful effort to balance the state budget gap of $3.5 billion last year.

“I refer to last year's budget as a three-legged stool, that consisted of a tax increase, cuts to current services and employee concessions. None of which were easy,” said O’Brien. “Now thanks to the difficult decisions that were made, the State is on the road to recovery.”

O’Brien has also helped pushed legislation to stimulate economic growth in Connecticut.

“We need to ensure that Connecticut is on the path to prosperity by implementing policies that allow for economic growth and recovery,” said O’Brien. “I proudly supported initiatives this past session such as the First Five Program, the expansion of the bioscience facilities at UConn, Jackson Labs and others that will move the state forward.”

Suffield Democratic Town Chairman Tom Frenaye said, “Elaine has been very active in reaching out to people and gathering their input on a variety of issues.  She listens well and does an excellent job of representing everyone in the 61st House District. We’re all looking forward to two more years of Elaine’s excellent service to the community!”
