11^th Annual Barkhamsted Earth Day Nature Festival

The Town of Barkhamsted Conservation Commission and the Friends of American Legion and Peoples State Forests (FALPS) are happily celebrating the 11^th Barkhamsted Earth Day Nature Festival, April 26^th, Matthies Grove Peoples State Forest, 106 East River Road, Barkhamsted.

The Festival supports all things Nature, and draws around 800 folks per year, despite annual bad weather! The events and exhibitors we have are all nature-related from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) represented with various wildlife exhibits, their Forestry Fires Suppression Unit, the fish trailer, fly fishing organizations, the Farmington River Watershed Association (FRWA) and the River Stewards, Bald Eagle & Birds of Prey Organizations, various Land Trusts and Audubon Societies, FALPS-sponsored Build-Your-Own-Wren Boxes for kids—the list goes on and on.

Kids can build wren houses to take home as well as hiking sticks provided by the CT Woodworkers Association. A Birds of Prey Show by Christine’s Critters will take place at 4:15 p.m.

The Festival celebrates all things Nature and tries to instill understanding of our Natural world and how to protect it and how lucky we are to have such a healthy watershed and natural areas not only in the Barkhamsted region, but also in the State of Connecticut.

Free food, free music and free fun.

The Farmington River Coordinating Committee (FRCC), an arm of the National Park Service that oversees the Wild and Scenic West Branch of the Farmington River has, once again, provided funding for the event. Their generosity and kindness is deeply appreciated.
