Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom is proud to accept the Peace Light from St. Alban’s of Simsbury, CT who received it from Simsbury Methodist Church last Fall. As those before us we accept the responsibility of keeping the flame lit. When the time comes we look forward to sharing this honor with another Congregation in the Farmington Valley
The Peace Light is a program inaugurated in Austria in 1986 as part of a charitable relief mission for handicapped children and people in need. It has gone to more than 20 countries in Europe, as well as the Americas.
The Peace Light was carried from Tel Aviv Israel to Vienna, Austria from where it is distributed at a Service of Dedication to delegations from across Europe who take it back, with a message of Peace, to their own countries. This individual Peace Light originated in Bethlehem, travelled to Israel, and onto New York City. It landed here in the Farmington Valley of CT. The goal is to help the light spread like the branches of a huge tree rooted in New York and spreading across the continent.
