Poll Results: Granbys Republicans Support Romney in Presidential Primary

Despite low voter turnout, Republican voters in Granby and East Granby choose the Republican frontrunner as he looked to win all of the state's 25 delegates.

As expected, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney enjoyed widespread support from local voters as he appeared to cruise to victory in the state's primary Tuesday.

In Granby, Romney received 263 out of the 382 votes cast at . Ron Paul received 54 votes, while Newt Gingrich received 41, Rick Santorum 18 and Uncommitted 6.

Just 16.64 percent (382 out of 2,295) of the town's registered Republicans showed up at the polls, with the lower turnout attributed to Romney's large lead in delegates leading into Tuesday's primary.

There was a similar result in East Granby at the , where Romney received 125 of the 188 votes cast Tuesday. Gingrich placed second with 30 votes, with Paul garnering 20, Santorum 8 and Uncommitted 5.

The 188 votes represented 19.5 percent of the 963 registered Republicans in town.

The results of the primary are unofficial until the town clerks from both towns certify the results.

Should Romney be declared the victor (the Associated Press declared Romney the winner at 8:30 p.m.), he would receive the state's 25 delegates.
