Rosensweig Selected Granby's New Chief of Police
West Hartford assistant chief accepts conditional offer pending polygraph and checks.

Carl Rosensweig has been selected to become the Granby Police Department’s next chief of police, according to town officials.
Town Manager William Smith made the announcement at the regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday evening.
Rosensweig, a West Hartford assistant chief of police, has accepted a conditional offer of employment, according to Smith, and must complete a polygraph test, as well as physical, psychiatric and background checks before he is fully hired.

If all goes as expected, Rosensweig will replace current Chief of Police David Watkins, who submitted his notice of retirement about a month ago, effective Sept. 30.
Smith said that he hopes that the process is completed so that Rosensweig is in place by the beginning of October.

“Chief Watkins has committed to the town that the appointment of the new chief goes as smooth as possible,” Smith said.

Charter Revision Commission
In other business, the selectmen unanimously authorized Smith to develop a framework and nominate appointees for a charter revision commission.
The charter revision commission, which is required to convene in a municipality every 10 years pursuant to state statute, will report back to the selectmen on potential charter revisions next June, and would then be voted on by the town in the November 2012 election.
First Selectman John Adams said that most of the changes that the last charter revision commission made in 2001 were more technical than substantive in nature.
“Boards changed names and such,” he said.
Smith said that he could return with a framework for the selectmen by the next regular meeting on Sept. 19.
Adams said that at least two individuals who served on the last commission would like to serve on the upcoming one.
“I want to make sure there is new blood as well,” Selectman Ronald Desrosiers said.
Anyone interested in joining the commission, which will consist of 5 to 15 members, should contact Smith at 860-844-5300, Democratic Town Committee Chair Margaret Chapple at 860-653-6171 or Republican Town Committee Chair B. Scott Kuhnly at 860-653-5843.
“A lot of people talk about how to change things in town,” Selectman Sally King said. “Well, here it is.”
