Simsbury Bank Employees Take Healthy Steps Challenge

Simsbury Bank employees recently embraced the company's first Healthy Steps Challenge to help promote health and well-being.

Simsbury Bank employees recently embraced the company’s first Healthy Steps Challenge to help promote health and well-being. The majority of the bank’s employees participated with many employees achieving days where they logged over 10,000 steps. Each participant was given a Simsbury Bank pedometer to track their steps and their progress. The steps that were considered part of this challenge included pre-work walks once an employee had arrived at work, lunch time walks, and staying after work to walk the local paths as well as all walking done as they performed their jobs. Simsbury Bank’s enthusiastic participants logged a grand total of 6,659,350 steps throughout the challenge. Prizes for the top team and the top walkers in various categories were awarded and each received a sports bag, a wicking sports shirt and a water bottle. The results of the challenge were celebrated bank-wide with fresh fruit and almond milk smoothies provided by the bank to encourage the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Charlene Faselle, Vice President and Credit Risk Management Officer created and chaired the event alongside Susan Presutti, Vice President and Human Resources Officer, who with the help of Carol Clifford, Executive Administrative Assistant, together chose the members for each team to ensure that each team had participants from multiple departments. The teams then selected their own captains for the challenge. The winning team, named “Holy Walkamolie,” included captain Laurie Krause, Charlene Faselle, Cindy Matthews, Jordan Moore, Ken Sklodosky, Jean Spalla, and Sophie Stevens, who combined a total of 124,637 steps. Mary Lou Bidwell also notably walked the most steps out of any other participants (179,230) in addition to the most steps in a week (42,789).

Charlene has already begun to schedule the next challenge for this fall. “With our next employee Healthy Steps Challenge, we are extending the eligible walk time. We also plan to mix up the teams again so that everyone has a chance to interact with new people,” she explained. “One of the side benefits to this challenge is that it creates fun reasons for employees to interact with others they might not normally get to connect with.” said Susan Presutti.
