Smiles, Tears on the First Day of School in Granby

Staff helped each child find his way to class.

There were megawatt grins, nervous smiles and more than a few tears as Granby started school Tuesday.

But the tears, shed on the steps of Kearns Primary School, fell on the cheeks of the mothers who were watching their babies pass through the school's doors and wave goodbye.

The young students headed off to class, shepherded by an army of welcoming teachers and Principal Kim Dessert greeted children on each bus as they arrived.

Parents were invited to the Lite-N-Up Eatery for a free cup of coffee to help digest the huge milestone.

Pending permission from the school, we will post a gallery of the photos we took on the first day of school. Until then, we know parents of big kids as well as small take first day of school photos, too. Please share them here.

Wishing you a great year!
