Three GMHS Students to Host Fashion Show
Venture with Young Hearts will feature 14 models wearing clothes created by Izzi Hall, Katie Sulzinski and Michelle St. Amour.

Three students are hosting Venture with Young Hearts, a fashion show that will will be held at Lost Acres Vineyard in North Granby on Dec. 10 as part of the girls’ Senior Project class.
Fourteen student models - one boy and 13 girls - will strut down the catwalk featuring the work of Granby Memorial High students Izzi Hall, Katie Sulzinski and Michelle St. Amour.
Hall makes her own clothes under her Dirty Jeans line, while Sulzinski and St. Amour refashion items from the Salvation Army.
According to Sulzinski, the venture, at least for her and St. Amour, has been two years in the making.
“We’ve envisioned this forever,” Sulzinski said. “I’m so excited. I’ve got six-inch heels and everything is going to be covered in glitter. Parents have been coming up to me and talking about the show.”
Sulzinski said that prior to last summer, she envisioned having a career in the fashion industry, possibly as a buyer. That changed when she was in a program at Drexel University.
“It’s very manipulative and it’s a bunch of catty girls,” Sulzinski said. Still, pulling off the show is quite an accomplishment.
The re-purposed clothes that Sulzinski and St. Amour make will go for between $1 for T-shirts and $3 for jeans, Sulzinski said.
“When people see what we’ve done, they say, ‘Oh, wow, that outfit was $12,’” Sulzinski said.
Hall, for her part, will be selling silk-printed Dirty Jeans T-shirts for $30, as well as distressed jeans that she makes.
“It’s been pretty crazy and a lot of fun,” said Hall, who wants to go to college for art fashion. “My mom helped me sew the clothes; I definitely wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without her.”
Tickets can be purchased from Sulzinski in advance for $3 or at the door for $5. In addition to the show, baked goods and food will be available from Cucina, which opened in Granby in August.
Sulzinski said that the girls hope to break even with the event; any profit that is generated will be donated to the Salvation Army.
