Tickets on Sale for East Granby High Pops Concert

Eleventh-annual event will take place on March 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

Tickets are still available for the 11th annual Music Department Pops Concert, which is scheduled for March 9 at 7 p.m.

But act fast.

Indeed, the concert, which will take place in the high school gymnasium and will feature performances by the EGHS band, jazz band, marching band, chorus and color guard, tends to be the hottest ticket in town.

Band Director is Alison Chaloux, who has organized all 11 performances since 2001, said the concert sells out rather quickly.

“It’s become an event that people in town look forward to,” said Chaloux, who noted that the concert also serves as the music department’s biggest fundraiser that takes in about $2,000 to $3,000 per show. “It started out with word of mouth and people would say later, ‘Wow I missed out on a really cool concert. Now it’s much more popular.”

The funds go to purchasing, among other things, trips for the music department, equipment and items for the color guard, according to Chaloux.

The theme for this year is “American Classics,” and will include the jazz band’s set of “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Chimney Stocking,” “All of Me,” and “Linus & Lucy,” while the chorus will sing a medley, and the color guard will do a routine to “Hello, Dolly!”

A DJ will entertain the crowd in between sets, Chaloux said.

The event will be cabaret style, with tables and chairs set up for a casual concert experience, according to a press release. Refreshments will also be available.

Reserved Seating is available until Feb. 22 by contacting Karen Blanchard at 860-424-7868. Patron tickets, which cost $10, reserves individual seating at tables in the middle Patron section with the name in program. The Gold Patron Package, which costs $50, reserves a table for six in the front Patron section with the names of the ticket holders in program.

General admission tickets, which offer bleacher seating, will be available at the door at time of concert for $5.
