Halloween will be here next week and children will be dressing up to go door to door Trick or Treating. It’s important to keep in mind our elderly loved ones especially those with dementia and physical limitations and the safety precautions to consider on this spooky night. If your loved one would like to spend the evening at home handing out candy, it would be helpful to have someone spend the evening with them, whether it is a family member or a caregiver. Keep floors, entry ways and porches clear of decorations. Be sure hallways, walkways and rooms are well lit. When the candy runs out put a sign on the door that says “Sorry No More Candy.” Turning off the front light could cause an increased security risk. If they do not want to stay home perhaps they can go to a family members home or community event for the evening. Have a happy and safe Halloween!
With the Holiday season quickly approaching we will return with our Tip of the Week in January 2015!
