Interested in helping out for a few hours and participating in a fun event? Organizers of the upcoming historical weekend in East Granby are seeking volunteers to help direct people, distribute event schedules, direct traffic for parking, set up, clean up and generally help out.
“An Historic Weekend in East Granby” is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th, when East Granby will become home to Revolutionary War period militia, other living history groups, period exhibits and performances, and a variety of all-ages activities. The event is being organized by the Town of East Granby Economic Development Commission, and will have widespread participation by community organizations in addition to featured activities.
Major participants include: Old Lebanon Towne Militia, originally organized in 1775 to fight against British tyranny; The Marquis of Granby Ancient Fyfe & Drum Corps, a recreation of a Revolutionary War unit; and Bristol Old Tyme Fiddlers Club, which preserves the old tradition of passing fiddle tunes from one generation to the next not by written music but by ear.
Other living history groups will also be joining in the event, plus vintage astronomy and stargazing, period artisan exhibits, the East Granby Historical Society barn and 1847 Concord stagecoach, local farmers, face painting, food, music, plus activities and information offered by several community organizations.
Activities will take place at East Granby Farms, 79 North Main Street in East Granby. Saturday hours will be from 9AM to 4PM with special evening activities planned; Sunday hours will be from 10AM to 4PM. There will be no admission charge.
