West Granby Methodist Church Launches Community Bible Reading Campaign right after Easter

Joining Thousands Nationwide Participating in The Story

The Story gives us a way to journey through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation together in 31 weeks so everyone understands God’s story and how their own personal story intersects with it.”

The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how many people in our community are actually reading it? A Gallup survey reports the average American household has four Bibles. However, research by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2008) found that only 16 percent of Americans read the Bible every day.

West Granby United Methodist Church is hoping to reverse this trend, starting with its own congregation. Pastor Peter Preiser believes that The Story, a Zondervan best-seller, is the right tool to increase Biblical literacy, helping readers understand God’s story from Genesis to Revelation and how their own stories intersect with God’s. Consisting of 31 chapters of carefully-selected scriptures sequenced in chronological order, The Story presents the Bible in an engaging format, reading like a novel.

“I want the people of our church and our community to realize the incredible love God has for them and how their story is found in His story,” said Pastor Preiser

West Granby United Methodist Church would like to challenge you to experience The Story in your own way.

Here are some ideas and opportunities:

· Order The Story and read it on your own. Zondervan Publishers, ISBN: 978-0-310-95097-4

· Go to our website and download a Reading Schedule, and use your own Bible

· Visit our Sunday services at 10:30am. Beginning on April 12, the first Sunday after Easter, the theme and message for each service will be taken from The Story reading schedule.

· Process what you are reading in a small group discussion beginning weekly, on Thursday night, April 9th at 7pm.

For more information, visit www.westgranbyumc.org or call us at (860) 653-7437

If you start reading with us right after Easter, you can complete The Story before Thanksgiving. This means that before the Advent season leading up to Christmas, you will have gained an overview of the entire scope of Scriptures and a better understanding of the Bible.

Take the Challenge… Read The Story!
