11 Greenwich HS Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists

All 11 GHS students were part of the 16,000 students who were named semifinalists last September.

GREENWICH, CT — Eleven Greenwich High School students have been named as 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program finalists, according to the Greenwich Public Schools District.

The students are:

  • Sophie Citron
  • Theresa Dobbins
  • Alexander Khilko
  • Arjun Kishore
  • Lauren Koester
  • Luke Mazzullo
  • Joaquina Mendive
  • Lara Nguyen
  • Emil Schaumburg
  • Harry Waters
  • Brandon Yu

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Approximately 1.5 million high school students enter the program each year.

All 11 GHS students were part of the 16,000 students who were named semifinalists last September.

"With the leadership and direction from our dedicated faculty, these 11 students’ commitment to academics drives them to achieve tremendous accomplishments," GHS Principal Ralph Mayo said at the time. "We are so proud of these students that have earned such an impressive designation."

About 95 percent of all semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Winners will be announced starting in March.
