GREENWICH, CT — Two New York men were arrested by Greenwich police last week, after authorities said the two tried to pull a retail scam of more than $3,600 at an unnamed Greenwich Avenue retailer.

Wenze Chen, 18, of Flushing, NY, and Zhiwei Dong, also 18, of Brooklyn, NY, were both arrested on Wednesday and were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.

According to Greenwich police, plain clothes officers in the Greenwich Avenue area spotted the two allegedly engaged in "suspicious activity," and detained them with the help of patrol officers.

"The investigation revealed that [Chen and Dong] conducted a fraudulent transaction in which [they] returned counterfeit merchandise in substitute for the original authentic product in an attempt to defraud and falsely deprive the victim business of $3,650," authorities wrote in a statement. "A subsequent search of the [arrested's] vehicle revealed additional counterfeit merchandise."

Both Chen and Dong were released after each posted bond on bail of $10,000, and are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on April 3.
