2 Juvenile Pedestrians Hurt In Separate Greenwich Crashes: Cops

Arrests were made in each incident.

GREENWICH, CT — Two pedestrians - both of whom are juveniles - suffered minor injuries in separate crashes in Greenwich, according to police, and the drivers were were arrested in each incident.

In the first one, 49-year-old Greenwich resident Susan Corman, of Doubling Road, surrendered to Greenwich police Sunday in connection with a May 11 crash on Orchard Street in Cos Cob in which she allegedly struck a juvenile pedestrian in a crosswalk and fled, according to police. The victim, whose age was not disclosed, sustained a minor lower body injury.

"It was later discovered that she had been drinking while operating her motor vehicle," wrote Greenwich police in a statement.

Corman was arrested on a warrant for the following charges:

  • Evading responsibility - physical injury
  • Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence
  • Failure to yield to a pedestrian

She was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 2.

In the second crash, a juvenile pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while on South Water Street in Byram near William Street on June 15.

According to police, witnesses said that the driver, 34-year-old Port Chester resident Jose Roberto Torres-Baustista, allegedly backed into the juvenile in the middle of the street and fled. The victim in this case also suffered a minor lower body injury.

Greenwich police used surveillance video to help identify the vehicle and driver, and tracked him down. While being interviewed in connection with the crash, Torres-Baustista allegedly admitted to being the driver and fleeing the scene.

Torres-Baustista was charged with:

  • Evading responsibility
  • Operating a motor vehicle without a license
  • Unsafe backing

He was released after posting a $260 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 29.
