2018 Competition Highlights Best in Jewish Collegiate A Cappella

Eight college a cappella teams from the Northeast participated in the first-ever New England Jewish Collegiate Competition & Showcase.

On Sunday, November 4, 2018, more than 400 people attended the first-ever New England Jewish Collegiate A Cappella Competition and Showcase, hosted by Temple Sholom (300 East Putnam Avenue).

A total of eight teams from the Northeast participated, and each performed three songs as part of their a cappella set: one in Hebrew, one in English with a Jewish context, and one of their choice. The event - produced by Gaston Bernstein and chaired by Temple Sholom's Cantor Sandy Bernstein – also included an opening performance from the temple's new Teen Choir.

"We're looking for a way to bring relevant Jewish music to the community and we are looking to bring Judaism to life in a way that's not being done all around the world," said Cantor Sandy, Director of the Teen Choir.
