2024 Greenwich St. Patrick's Day Parade: Start Time, Participants, Road Closures

The 48th annual parade is set to be the largest in town history, according to organizers.

GREENWICH, CT — The 48th annual Greenwich St. Patrick's Day Parade is set for Sunday, March 17, and here's everything you need to know for the popular town event.

Parade Details

The parade will step off from Greenwich Town Hall at 2 p.m. when Greenwich police officer James Ketterer blows the ceremonial starting whistle. The parade will then head up Fied Point Road to the Post Road at the top of Greenwich Avenue, and it proceed down the length of the Avenue.

According to parade organizers, this year's event is slated to be the biggest in tow history.

There will be six bagpipe bands included in the 13 total bands: Greenwich Pipe Band; Fairfield County Police Pipes and Drums; Westchester Firefighters Pipes and Drums; Pelham Regional Pipe Band; Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums; Port Chester High School Marching Band; Tappan Zee Bridgemen; Nash Drum Corp.; Wholly Brass Band; Sound Beach Community Band; Greenwich High School Jazz Band; Connecticut Patriot Fife and Drum Band; and the Fairfiled Gaelic Pipe Band.

Additionally, there will be at least 70 groups of local schools, scouts, fire and police departments and civic organizations marching.

There will be Irish Step Dancers from two local schools: Lynn Academy of Irish dance and Harney Pender Keady Academy of Irish Dance.

A number of antique and vintage vehicles will be in the parade including an antique van sponsored by Sam Bridge Nursery. The always popular Pyramid Shriners Motor Patrol will perform in their miniature cars.

This year's grand marshal is Thomas Byrne, a Greenwich resident and the former longtie moderator of the Representative Town Meeting. Byrne was installed as the grand marshal last week.

Road Closures

Parking restrictions will be in effect starting at 10 a.m. Sunday morning, according to the Greenwich Police Department. Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, and illegally parked vehicles will be towed.

  • There will be "No Parking" on the east side of Greenwich Avenue from West Putnam Avenue to Steamboat Road.
  • In addition, there will be "No Parking" on the west side of Greenwich Avenue from Bruce Place (Greenwich Commons Park) to Steamboat Road.
  • Dayton Avenue will be closed at noon from Field Point Road to the entrance of the supermarket to facilitate the parade trucks, floats, and other parade elements.

Road closures will occur throughout the downtown Greenwich area at approximately 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the parade.

  • Detour signs and police officers will be deployed to facilitate traffic detours.
  • West Putnam Avenue (Route 1) will be closed for the parade from Deerfield Drive to Lafayette Place from 1:45 p.m. until approximately 3 p.m.

Roads will be reopened as the parade passes, and it has been determined that it is safe to open the roadway.
