"Our tracker posted another large number of positive cases today," said district spokesperson Jonathan Supranowitz. "GPS monitors the situation closely, and while cases continue to rise in our town, the vast majority of cases continue to come from the outside community. Since returning from our break, we have not experienced an outbreak within a classroom."
There are high case counts in schools across the state. Last Thursday, the Department of Public Health reported 7,612 new infections for students in Connecticut, up from 1,363 for the week prior.
DPH logged 2,338 positive COVID-19 cases among school staff, an increase from 477 recorded the previous week.
Updated District Guidelines
When classes resumed following the holiday recess last week, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toni Jones announced several new guidelines that will be implemented in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Updated guidelines for the district include:
- All school sites are re-evaluating the lunch mitigation to make sure that ample space is being instituted between students when masks are off.
- All school sites are limiting individuals who may enter the building to only essential volunteers or consultants (through January).
- Greenwich High School has opened a gym for expanded lunch space.
- GHS has added a fifth lunch rotation to reduce the number of students eating at one time.
- Aquatics classes at GHS have been temporarily suspended and pool safety and other curriculum have been substituted (to be evaluated again at the end of January). This change does not impact after-school athletics.
