40 Greenwich Students Brought to Hospital 'as a Precaution' Following Traffic Incident

The bus carrying students and chaperones from North Mianus School stopped short to avoid a collision, Greenwich Police said.

Forty North Mianus fourth-graders were brought to Greenwich Hospital as a precaution Wednesday afternoon after the school bus carrying them and 12 adult chaperones stopped suddenly to avoid a collision with another vehicle, officials said.

Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, “The students were jostled … it was not an accident. One or two of the students made mention (of possible injuries) and they thought it best to bring everyone to the hospital as a precautionary measure.” Gray said the driver apparently stopped short to avoid a collision.

Greenwich Public Schools spokesman Kim Eves said in a statement, “The Greenwich Police (GPD) report that based on an initial assessment, there were no apparent or serious injuries. However, GPD and GEMS (Greenwich Emergency Medical Service) at the scene determined that the full busload of students and chaperones should go to the hospital for examination as a precaution.”

“North Mianus School Principal Angela Schmidt contacted the parents of the students on board the bus. Mrs. Schmidt and Deputy Superintendent Ellen Flanagan went to Greenwich Hospital to supervise the situation,” Eves said.
