Annual Appeal Underway for Stamford Emergency Medical Services

Raising funds this nonprofit organization providing paramedic ambulance services to our community.

The Stamford EMS (SEMS) annual appeal is underway, raising funds this nonprofit organization providing paramedic ambulance services to our community. This independent, not-for-profit responds to over 14,000 calls annually and raises its funding through private donations.

“We have been serving the Stamford community for nearly 25 years and most people are surprised to learn that we’re a private non-profit,” said Patricia Squires, Executive Director of SEMS. “We’re not part of Stamford Hospital or the Fire Department, and we’re not a volunteer organization. We’re providing top quality paramedic and ambulance service, and we’re funding that service independently. Our fundraising efforts go directly to capital expenditures, i.e., ambulances, heart monitors and other lifesaving equipment. You can see tangible evidence of your donation at work every day in our community.”

Top quality indeed, SEMS is the only CAAS accredited service in the state. This means SEMS service has met the ambulance industry ‘gold standard,’ that it delivers the highest quality of patient care possible. It also means that the service SEMS provides is second to none, state-wide.

As an example, nationally about 30 percent of cardiac arrest victims survive their attack, but the rate for the SEMS organization is 50 percent. Additionally, SEMS response time beats the national standard. The combination of highly trained professionals, state-of-the art equipment and faster than average response rates can make the difference between life and a premature death.

“People don't always think about or understand the true value that emergency medical service brings to the community; that is until they need it. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to SEMS, the life you save might be your own.” said Squires.
