Greenwich Selectmen To Review Parking Rules, Flag Policy, Historic Home Study
Here's a preview of the upcoming Greenwich Board of Selectmen meeting.
GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich’s Board of Selectmen is scheduled on Thursday to consider several policy-related matters, including changes to residential parking regulations, a proposed amendment to the town’s flag policy and the possible expansion of two town advisory bodies.
The board will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, in the Town Hall Meeting Room and via Zoom.
One of the agenda items is a second reading of a proposed amendment to the town’s traffic ordinance that would add Division Street to Greenwich’s Residential Parking Permit Program.

According to materials submitted by the Department of Parking Services, residents petitioned for the change, citing increased overcrowding caused by nonresidential parking, particularly from employees of nearby businesses and visitors seeking free parking. The department conducted a review and determined the request met the criteria for inclusion in the program.
If approved, residential permit parking restrictions would apply on both sides of Division Street between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The board also is scheduled to hold a second reading on a proposal to nominate the Historic District Commission as a study committee to review whether 35 Maher Ave. should receive local historic property designation.
Materials included in the agenda packet describe the Colonial Revival-style home as dating to 1900-1901 and note its association with the early development of the Maher Avenue neighborhood.
Another second-reading item involves a proposal to expand the Energy Management Advisory Committee from seven to nine members.
The board also is expected to revisit requests to raise the Ecuadorian flag at Town Hall and to raise the 1776 colonial American flag on Constitution Day, Sept. 17. Both items are before the board for second readings.
Under new business, selectmen are scheduled to consider a first reading of a parking ordinance amendment involving permit parking on Hillside Road.
According to agenda materials, the proposal would formally designate one existing permit parking section on Hillside Road for faculty and staff parking rather than student parking, codifying an arrangement that has already been in place and aligning the ordinance with existing signage.
The board is also expected to review a proposed amendment to Greenwich’s flag policy, brought forward by Selectwoman Rachel Khanna.
Notably, the proposed revisions would add a requirement that residents seeking a flag raising obtain written support from five other town residents and submit their request at least 30 days in advance.
The changes also would formalize an annual Board of Selectmen review of recurring flag displays, clarify that military and veterans-related flag requests should be brought forward by the American Legion, its successor organization or other designated veterans groups.
If a military or veteran-related flag display is not already included in the approved annual legacy slate of flag displays, such request shall be presented at two regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen meetings for consideration and a vote, a proposed change says.
Another first-reading item would expand the Commission on Aging from seven to nine members.
