Connecticut Weather: 'Big' Weekend Storm Still Expected

Sunday will be no fun in Connecticut. Here's the latest on a complicated and tricky forecast that involves the chance for severe weather.

Sunday is only a couple of days away, and all we know definitively is that there will be periods of heavy rain and strong wind gusts during the day and night in Connecticut. Computer models are split on exactly what we'll see in Connecticut. Some show four inches of rain is possible while others are much more conservative. It's the same thing with wind gusts as some models show the potential for 60 mph winds, and others show a lot less.

In a blog post, NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote, "It's going to be a big storm - there's no doubt about that. The question is how bad will it be here in Connecticut as it moves north. That's an open question.

He said different weather models show different things, as some show 3-4 inches of rain on Sunday, while others predict less than a 50 percent chance of two inches for us. Also the wind threat on Sunday is still very much up in the air too, but some models show gusts could hit 60 mph in Connecticut.

"For now be prepared for damaging winds and the potential for flooding on Sunday. While both are possible they are by no means guaranteed," Hanarahan wrote.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Connecticut that says, "The potential exists for a strong cold front to approach from the west, while an intensifying storm moves up the coast, Sunday into Sunday night. This storm could produce heavy rain capable of causing areal and small stream flooding during this time frame. Strong winds will also be possible across the area.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said plan on clouds moving in on Saturday during the day and to expect some showers Saturday night. The heaviest rain will be on Sunday lasting into early Monday, he said. Around sunset Sunday is when to expect the "severe (wind) threat." The storm leaves early Monday and he added that "Halloween looks like a treat. "

So to recap, Sunday looks like a mess no matter what, but Friday and Saturday look good with sun and temps in the low to mid 60s.
