Bob Jones Receives Highest Recognition from Greenwich Scouting

Greenwich Scouting recently celebrated their dedicated and hardworking adult volunteers at the annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner.  Volunteers showing outstanding service were recognized through various awards including the Greenwich Scouter’s Award, the Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award a national award and the highest recognition given by a council for service of exceptional character to youth.

This year’s Silver Beaver Award recipient was Robert W. Jones, Jr.  Bob’s scouting career in Greenwich began in the early 1980’s when friend and fellow parent Al Kitselman gave him the standard line “Bob, its only 1 hour a week.” He eventually became the Cubmaster for Pack 23 and he moved along to Troop 11 where he held numerous positions, including merit badge counselor, Advancement Chairman, Committee Chairman, and Assistant Scout Master for many years. After both his Eagle Scout sons went to college, he was asked to join the Greenwich Council Board in 2005. On the Board, he served as Treasurer and then Council President for 3 years.  He is currently Chairman of the annual fundraising Golf Tournament.  Bob has previously been awarded the Greenwich Scouter Award.  He is a consulting actuary and the Managing Director of Buck Consultant’s Northeast U.S. Region and resides in Cos Cob with his wife Joyce.  Bob’s daughter Kim, two Eagle Scout sons Craig and Dave and their families all live close-by in North Mianus.

Adventure, leadership, service and learning, especially in the outdoors, have remained essential to the Greenwich Scouting experience since its inception in 1912.  Nearly 2,600 local youth participate in fun programs, run by 350 dedicated volunteers, all of which help prepare local boys and girls for life.  With over 18 partnering organizations and Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Exploring opportunities in Greenwich, Connecticut, there’s never been a better time to join the Scouting community.  For more information about local Scouting or to volunteer visit www.GreenwichScouting.org.
