Canine Massage Chicago Opens Doors with 2 Locations, the First of Its Kind. Will Greenwich Be Next?

A Chicago licensed human massage therapist now offers canine massage, pet parent classes, behavior training and career training in two facilities that opened in July 2012. Will Greenwich be next?

It had to happen sooner or later! A massage therapist deserts humans for dogs.

After working on people for 20 years, Denise Theobald, a licensed massage therapist, decided to practice to canine massage instead. That was 13 years ago and she has not looked back.

Ms. Theobald now offers canine massage, pet parent classes, behavior training and career training to the Chicago area in two new facilities that opened in July 2012.

Canine Massage Chicago held its first free demo night on July 11, 2012.

The company is gaining notoriety among Chicago media, as it’s the first of its kind to open a facility, in a major city, that offers massage, classes, behavior training and an on-staff veterinarian. “There are certainly other canine massage businesses, but it’s usually offered as an in-home service, through veterinarian clinics or physical therapy,” said Theobald.

“I want to educate the public that the same benefits touch has on humans can be seen in canines. Massage goes a long way in helping people become active participants in their dog’s health care. We offer Pet Parent massage classes that are an in-depth take on canine massage with hands-on techniques that can be used safely at home,” said Theobald. “We also have specialty classes that focus on sports massage, massage for the senior dog, and massage for the anxious and shy dog. Canine Massage Chicago also provides behavior training and holistic veterinary services.”

She goes on to say, “Massage has many psychological benefits. Our trainers not only teach how to handle your dog, but they also have first-hand insight on what massage and touch can do to improve your pets obedience, trust issues, fear and touch reactivity. And veterinarians work with many physical issues your pets may have. Having an on-site licensed vet allows us to work together on repairing or preventing injuries.”

Canine Massage Chicago also educates pet lovers who want to help pets professionally.

“I am a graduate of her 200-hour extensive program, and I have learned immensely the importance of pet massage,” said student Gemma Piscotti. “From assisting with rehabilitation to making pets more mobile and avoiding injury, it’s amazing what the power of massage can do.”

Denise recently spoke of the many benefits of canine massage on a recent appearance on ABC 7 News.
