Saint Saviour's Opens Doors for Old Greenwich Memorial Day Parade — Free Refreshments, Souvenirs, and the Best Seat in Town
OLD GREENWICH, CT — One of Old Greenwich's most beloved Memorial Day traditions returns this year and Saint Saviour's Episcopal Church throws open its doors for a free community viewing party for the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25, beginning at 9:45 a.m. The parade begins at 10:00 am so please come early!
The historic 1918 church sits directly along the parade route — making it the premier vantage point as the procession travels down Sound Beach Avenue from Shore Acre Drive and winds up to Binney Park for the official veterans' memorial service. Reverend Michael Southwick, who will later lead the prayers during the Binney Park ceremony, will be on hand alongside his wife Debby and Saint Saviour's parishioners to welcome the public with refreshments, and patriotic souvenirs. All are welcome — no RSVP required.
"This is one of the highlights of our year," said Reverend Southwick. "Memorial Day is about remembering those who made the greatest sacrifice for this country, and we're proud to help bring the community together to honor their service."
The Old Greenwich Memorial Day Parade is a cornerstone of community life in Greenwich, drawing families, veterans, marching bands, local organizations, sports teams, and youth groups together each year in a wonderful display of patriotism and civic pride.
Saint Saviour's itself is a treasured piece of Old Greenwich history — a welcoming neighborhood parish that has served the community since 1918. Its charming, mission-style church building is also home to a beloved dance school and nursery school, making it a familiar and cherished gathering place for generations of local families.
