Connecticut Library Association Honors Greenwich Librarian

Alice Sherwood received the association's career achievement award for her work as head of the Greenwich Library's children's department.

Alice Sherwood, who recently retired as Head of Children’s Services at Greenwich Library, was honored with the Faith Hektoen Award at the meeting and awards ceremony of the 2015 Annual Connecticut Library Association (CLA) Conference.

The prestigious award is given annually by the Children’s Section of the CLA to recognize the efforts of an individual or group that has made an impact on library services to children in Connecticut at the local, regional, or state level.

In nominating Sherwood for the award, library colleagues cited her introduction of the Baby Lapsit program, the Ready for Reading Kits, the Jr. Book Club for grades 4-6, the Bookworms Book Club for grades 2-3 and the reorganization of the picture book room for better browsing by popular concepts and subjects. They also noted that “Alice Sherwood led by example, putting the child first, and carried a devotion and passion for children’s services in her 14 years as head of the department at Greenwich Library.
