8 CT Pizza Places Among Nation's Top 100: Daily Meal

Another year, another ranking confirming what we already know: the best pizza in the United States is served in Connecticut. In its most recent ranking of the 101 Best Pizzas in America, online foodie bible The Daily Meal proclaims to the world that New Haven's Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana is the No. 1 pizza in America.

All hail the King.

"After a year slightly further down the list, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana has returned to the top of the heap, as we’re once again naming it the best pizza in America," writes The Daily Meal, referring to the spot's uncharacteristic drop to #3 in 2016. "This is a checklist destination, one you’ll have to make a pilgrimage to if you want to discuss the topic of America's best pizza with any authority."

Which of Pepe's signature pies is The Daily Meal's favorite? The Clam Pie, which the website says has to be ordered "No Muzz," meaning without mozzarella cheese.

But The Daily Meal didn't stop with Pepe's. A total of eight Connecticut pizzerias made the list, the fourth most among all states — an impressive feat. We'll update this list later in 2018 when the Daily Meal unveils its top pizza places for 2018.

"We know that no list is perfect, least of all one involving a subject about which people feel as strongly as they do about pizza," writes The Daily Meal (click here to read the full story, which includes how the site picked the best). "Unlike many arbitrary lists, though — rankings diversified for the purpose of geographical engagement, 'expert' listicles chosen by a handful of New York City’s food writers — these rankings were approached methodically and comprehensively, and bring a great deal of pizza expertise to bear."

The eight Connecticut pizzerias to make the list are:

#63 - Mike's Apizza & Restaurant, West Haven

#44 - Bru Room at Bar, New Haven

#33 - Zuppardi's, West Haven

#32 - Ernie's Pizzeria, New Haven

#8 - Sally's Apizza, New Haven

#3 - Modern Apizza, New Haven

#1 - Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana, New Haven
