GREENWICH, CT — Town officials announced Tuesday afternoon there are now six confirmed cases of the new coronavirus reported in Greenwich. The announcement comes days after First Selectman Fred Camillo announced Friday two residents had tested positive for the virus, also referred to as the COVID-19 virus, as well as an announcement Thursday that a New York resident who was treated at Greenwich Hospital had also tested positive for the virus.

In an email to Patch, Camillo's executive assistant, Barbara Heins, confirmed the new total number of confirmed cases in town to be six, and said one patient is currently hospitalized. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Heins said she did not have information regarding the patients' gender or age. According to the town's health department, none of the six patients traveled abroad.

"We cannot stress strongly enough that the best way to minimize the spread of COVID-19 is to practice social distancing," Heins said in a statement, "that includes not getting together in parks for playdates, dinner parties, etc. Wash your hands frequently. If you feel ill, stay home."

On Monday, Camillo declared a local state of emergency in Greenwich and announced a number of changes at Town Hall, which will be closed to the public and operate with "limited services and access" through at least April 3.
