CT-CHRO Announces Results Of Greenwich Public Schools Probe: Report

The CT Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities conducted an investigation into the hiring practices within Greenwich Public Schools.

GREENWICH, CT — The Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities this week shed some light on its investigation into former Cos Cob School Assistant Principal Jeremy Boland and the hiring practices within Greenwich Public Schools.

Similar to the other investigations that have been concluded thus far, the CT CHRO found Boland's comments in a viral video that was posted online by Project Veritas in August 2022 to be untrue, Greenwich Time reported.

HRO Attorney Robin Fox discussed the findings during a virtual meeting this week.

"Our report does show that we were unable to substantiate any evidence of discrimination based on either religion or age, which were the factors that were brought before us," Fox said according to Greenwich Time.

Several investigations were launched into Boland and the school district after a surreptitiously recorded video was released by the conservative organization Project Veritas on Aug. 30, 2022, that depicted Boland making remarks about his own personal hiring practices and his preference for younger, more progressive teachers who aren't Catholic.

The Boland video was the first in a series Project Veritas called "The Secret Curriculum," which aimed to highlight "the secret curriculum that is indoctrinating your children," Project Veritas said on its YouTube page.

Project Veritas is known for conducting undercover video stings and publicizing private conversations. The organization has been facing legal issues in recent years.

Boland was placed on administrative leave after the video was released last August and ultimately resigned in March 2023. A new assistant principal was appointed in May.

Boland began working for GPS as a physical education teacher in 2006 and became the district's physical education health and family program coordinator in 2018. He was promoted to assistant principal at Cos Cob School in 2020.

The CHRO reviewed the hiring that Boland was involved with, conducted interviews with people who sat on hiring panels, and reviewed documents provided by the school district, Greenwich Time said, adding that the CHRO gave Greenwich Public Schools hiring recommendations.

CT Attorney General William Tong conducted an investigation into Boland, as did the town of Greenwich and the school district.

The CT State Department of Education is also conducting an investigation but the status of it is unknown.
