Discover the World of Gardening in Greenwich

Even though the ground is still covered with snow and ice, it’s not too early to start thinking about gardening.

Greenwich residents have two opportunities get a jumpstart on their gardening season on Saturday.

The first is at 10 a.m. Feb. 28 when local microgreens guru Chris Hadin of Abilis leads the workshop ‘Growing Microgreens: Your Own Indoor Flavor Garden’ at the Abilis green house, 50 Glenville St. Attendees of the workshop, that’s being co-hosted by Greenwich Community Gardens, will receive one packet of Microgreen seeds and a free Microgreens growing guide. Then on Saturday afternoon, residents can learn about the benefits of community gardens at a program to be held at Byram Shubert Library.

Patty Sechi, founder of the Armstrong Court Community Garden and the Bible Street Community Garden, will lead the program “Cultivating A Community of Gardeners” at 2 p.m. Feb. 28.

If you would like to grow your own fresh produce but don’t have the right space, or don’t like to garden alone, learn how and why community gardeners are not just producing and eating the best and freshest food in town. Sechi and actual gardeners will share how they have benefited from being members of local community gardens. They will discuss how residents can become a community gardener or a garden supporter.
