Nor'easter Batters Greenwich, Trees Down Throughout Town

Friday's nor'easter continues to impact the area.

Greenwich police posted this update Friday evening on its Twitter page:

The town has set up temporary storm shelters because power had been knocked out to more than 6,600 Eversource utility customers in Greenwich as of 9:32 p.m. on Friday.

Connecticut State Police posted the following update on its Twitter page concerning a downed tree closing a portion of the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich Friday afternoon:

Greenwich police issued the following update during the afternoon concerning the March 2 storm:

As of 3:30 p.m. travel in the Town of Greenwich remains difficult as numerous trees and wires
have come down due to high winds. As the storm moves through the area we can expect more
trees and wires to fall.

Flooding is another hazards associated with this storm. People living in known flood areas
should expect an extended and unusual high tide.

Slippery road conditions and reduced visibility can be expected throughout the night.

[Eversource], the Tree Department and our First Responders are currently working to open roads in
effected areas and will continue to do so.

If you do not have to travel, please do not until the storm has passed. Stay away from all down
wires.

As of 4:02 p.m., more than 4,400 Eversource customers in Greenwich were without power.

Original story: GREENWICH, CT — A fallen tree on Sound View Drive near Field Point Road in Greenwich has knocked down power lines and required the closure of the road, according to the Greenwich police. Additionally, a downed tree also closed a portion of Lake Avenue near Greenwich Hospital.

The road might remain closed into Saturday, and is just one of the roads in town impacted by Friday's nor'easter.

As of 1:32 p.m., more than 585 Eversource utility customers were without power in Greenwich.
