The Drawing Room Art Gallery is pleased to announce it’s upcoming exhibition, David Dunlop: Visual Journeys. This solo show celebrates the recent work of David Dunlop and his dynamic range of subjects, examining the varying and mysterious ways in which he vividly expresses light, place, and time through his painting. In conjunction with the opening of this exhibition, the Artist will be giving a Talk on Saturday, November 5th at 4:00 pm, followed by the Gallery’s Opening Reception. These events are free and open to the public.
Interested in perception and the visual phenomenon of light, motion and reflection, David Dunlop creates luminous, emotive works in which direct, loose and painterly marks are exceedingly vivid in their contemporary realism. His work extends from expansive, serene landscapes of the Connecticut shores and its flora to energetic and moody scenes of Manhattan.

Artist, lecturer and teacher, David Dunlop is the engaging host and Emmy Awardwinning writer of the 13-episode PBS television series, Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop. Dunlop is a modern-day old master whose luminous landscapes draw from both Renaissance techniques and contemporary science. His paintings have been shown internationally and are held in the collections of major corporations.
Born in St. Louis, Dunlop attended the College of Wooster, majoring in Philosophy and English Literature. After extensive travels through Europe, studies at the Art Students League, and a concentration in Printmaking at Robert Blackburn’s Studio in New York, he went on to receive his MFA from Pratt Institute.

In the late 1970’s Dunlop moved to Connecticut where he began teaching at Silvermine Arts Center, where he continues to teach today. He travels throughout the country and internationally, teaching and lecturing at prestigious museums and art centers, sharing his personal research, knowledge, passion on the history of art and how one can learn to combine modern techniques and classical traditions with a contemporary approach.
Well-versed in art history, philosophy, painting and the science of visual perception, David Dunlop is without a doubt a modern-day master, whose work The Drawing Room is honored to share and feature, opening November 5, 2016 and running through January 21, 2017.
The Drawing Room Art Gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
