"Any attempt to disrupt the political process with violence must be condemned in the strongest terms. What happened on Saturday is not the first time we have witnessed this in our country, but it must be the beginning of the end of acceptance of it as just part of public life.
"Let us get back to focusing on issues and offering solutions and different perspectives, not attacking individuals and groups of people. The Town of Greenwich prays for all those who were affected by Saturday's tragedy. We especially keep the family of Corey Comperatore and former President Donald Trump in our prayers. May God grant them strength and unbreakable faith in the days ahead.
"Reckless language, accusations, and conspiracy theories contribute to an environment of hate, which sadly finds fertile ground on social media sites. As individuals, we can, and should, lead by example and remember the words of President Lincoln, that we will all be "touched by the better angels of our nature."
