Former CT Sports Anchor Lands Monday Night Football Gig: Reports

The new play-by-play announcer for ESPN's Monday Night Football telecast is a WFSB alum.

Joe Tessitore, who worked at WFSB for several years before moving a few towns away to ESPN in 2002, will be the new play-by-play announcer for the Worldwide Leader's Monday Night Football telecast beginning this fall, according to the New York Post's Andrew Marchand.

Tessitore has been a college football announcer for the network, and in his new gig he will essentially flip roles with Sean McDonough, who is leaving the Monday Night Football booth to return to calling college football games.

ESPN has yet to formally announce Tessitore's promotion, but multiple media outlets have been discussing the move for several days.

In addition to losing McDonough, the weekly broadcast is also losing analyst Jon Gruden, who returned to coaching the soon-to-be-Las-Vegas Raiders.

Peyton Manning reportedly turned down the color commentary role to replace Gruden, but several other former players have expressed interest in the spot next to Tessitore.
