Former Greenwich EMT Charged With Attempted Murder: Report

A former Greenwich EMT is accused of shooting two people in Las Vegas, according to local media reports.

GREENWICH, CT — Walter Pendleton, a former EMT for Greenwich Emergency Medical Services, was arrested last week in Las Vegas, Nev., where he now lives and charged with attempted murder, according to local media reports.

Pendleton worked for GEMS, the town's ambulance service, from 1986 until 2020, Greenwich Time reported. He left after an investigation was launched into racist social media postings.

KLAS 8, a local television outlet in Las Vegas, said that Pendleton is accused of shooting his wife and her friend at an apartment on May 9.

Pendleton, 55, had been served with an eviction notice and was separated from his wife, who was at the apartment with a friend to retrieve her belongings, KLAS 8 said.

The wife was shot in the arm, and the friend was shot seven times, causing her to have surgery at a local hospital, KLAS 8 said. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded around 5 p.m. after a neighbor called 911 to report gunshots and a woman screaming.

According to the Clark County Court website, Pendleton was charged with two counts of attempted murder, domestic battery with use of a deadly weapon, battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, assault, and discharging a gun inside an occupied structure.

Pendleton appeared in court on May 15 and pleaded not guilty, court records show. He was released after a $100,000 bond was posted, and he was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device.

A preliminary hearing for Pendleton is scheduled for May 30.
