CT Weather: Freeze Watch, Warning Issued And Wind Also A Concern
Connecticut will see its coldest temps of the season and some areas of the state may even see its first snowflakes.

A Freeze Watch and Freeze Warning have been issued for most of Connecticut beginning late tonight through Thursday morning. This will definitely be the coldest air of the season to date and many places will see temps near the freezing mark for the first time this fall. Some parts of the state may even see its first snowflakes tonight or early Thursday.
Besides the freezing temps, strong and gusty winds are also a concern, especially for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, where a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service.
Long-range, it also appears that it will be a cold ending to the month and November also looks very chilly with forecasters saying conditions would be favorable for snow sooner than later in Connecticut.

Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties:
A Freeze Watch is in effect from late tonight through Thursday morning. Temps will drop below the freezing mark, especially between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday. Freezing temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation.
In a Special Weather Statement issued for today, the weather service adds, "A BRIEF PERIOD OF 35 TO 45 MPH WIND GUSTS MAY RESULT IN A FEW DOWNED TREES AND ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES BETWEEN 2 AND 8 PM THIS EVENING...
A strong cold front will cross the region this afternoon and early this evening. A band of scattered showers may accompany this cold front and result in a brief period of 35 to 45 mph wind gusts. Given that we still have fully leafed trees...the potential exists for a few downed trees and isolated power outages. The main time of concern is between 2 and 8 pm this evening."
Also on Thursday in Northern Connecticut, the weather service says, "Another period of strong, potentially damaging westerly winds is forecast across all of Southern New England. Again there is the potential for downed tree and/or tree limbs along with the possibility of power outages."
Litchfield County:
The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 AM EDT Thursday. Temperatures...In the upper 20s to lower 30s. Timing...Late tonight through mid Thursday morning. Impacts...Kill crops and other sensitive vegetation bringing an end to the growing season.
Areas along the immediate Connecticut Coast:
A strong cold front will move across the Tri-State area today. Ahead of the front, temperatures will warm into the upper 50s and lower 60s and there will be breezy west winds. There could be a few showers as the cold front moves across the region.
Gusty northwest winds in the wake of the front tonight will usher in the coldest airmass of the season. Canadian high pressure will build towards the area through Thursday. Temperatures tonight will fall into the lower 30s inland and the middle and upper 30s elsewhere. The cold temperatures will continue on Thursday as highs struggle to reach 50 degrees, despite mostly sunny skies. These temperatures are about 15 degrees below normal for the middle of October."
WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "Sunshine and a few clouds with 50s through the middle of the day today! A rude round of wind coming through during the afternoon with a quick rain shower. Colder weather arrives this evening right through Friday morning. High temperatures on Thursday only in the 40s, a wind chill of only 30s during the day tomorrow! A quick shower early Saturday but most of the weekend is now looking dry! » Find Your Connecticut Patch and more news of the day, including our most-read stories.

I hate to say this but this is a good pattern for an early season snow. Watch the end of this month or early November for something wintry. pic.twitter.com/zHgImPLchi

I spy with my little eye... something BLUE! Oh yeah. First flakes of the season perhaps? This is Wednesday night - early Thursday AM for the NW hills. Just a light rain/snow shower but still! pic.twitter.com/MZPYCccwGu
