George Washington's Inaugural Bible Is Coming To Greenwich

GREENWICH, CT — One of the most sacred artifacts in American history will be on display at Greenwich Library in June.

In commemoration of America's 250th anniversary, residents will have the chance to view the Bible on which George Washington took his oath of office on Saturday, June 20.

Residents are invited to visit the Bible between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Greenwich Library's Jewel room.

A summary of the historic relic will be provided by members of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 Ancient York Masons, the custodians of the Bible.

The Bible has been used in the inaugurations of Presidents Warren G. Harding, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush.

Acacia Lodge No. 85 Ancient, Free, & Accepted Masons procured the visitation of the artifact to the Town of Greenwich.
