Darien Special Education Chair Joins Greenwich Public Schools

Theresa Fox comes to Greenwich from the Darien Public Schools District.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones on Thursday announced that Theresa Fox has been named elementary and middle school special education program coordinator, effective immediately.

Fox replaces Carrie Borcherding, who recently departed GPS to become special services director of the Woodbridge School District.

Fox will be responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising programs for students with disabilities, and will report directly to Chief Officer of Special Education and Student Supports Dr. Stacey Heiligenthaler.

"I am excited to be joining the Greenwich Public Schools as the special education coordinator for elementary and middle schools," Fox said said in a news release. "I look forward to working collaboratively with the incredible team of teachers and administrators, parents, and students to ensure all students receive high quality instruction focused on individualized needs."

Heiligenthaler said she's "thrilled" to welcome Fox to the special education team.

"Her extensive background in special education and literacy instruction will be a great asset and an invaluable resource to our staff and students as, together as a community, we continue to build on our commitment to the enhancement of academic success, access to programs, protocols, practices and compliance for all students," Heiligenthaler said in a news release.

Fox brings a wealth of experience to GPS, most recently as the special education and student support services department chair at Darien Public Schools since 2019, serving on the district’s curriculum leadership, administrative instructional and building-based leadership teams.

Two years prior, she was a special education teacher for Darien’s Middlesex Middle School. Fox's career as an educator began at Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, where for 28 years, she was a special education teacher and educational advisor.

Fox holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and master’s degree in special education from Southern Connecticut State University.

She has Intermediate Administrative Certification and a Certificate of Advanced Studies - Educational Administration and Leadership from Sacred Heart University and completed studies for literacy and reading specialist (remedial reading and remedial language arts) from Albertus Magnus College.
