Greenwich Field Hockey to Play State Semifinal

One step away from a trip to the state final, the Greenwich field hockey team will be looking for revenge when it takes on top seed Cheshire in the Class L semifinals on Wednesday.

In October, the Rams suffered a 3-1 loss the Rams. The rematch is set for Fairfield Ludlowe at 4 p.m. Cheshire reached the semifinals with a 1-0 win over No. 9 Staples on Monday.

Greenwich (7-6-3-2) missed the FCIAC playoffs, but the Cardinals have made amends with a pair of wins over top-five seeds in the state tournament, including a 2-1 victory over No. 5 Hamden in the quarterfinals on Monday.

The winner of Wednesday's contest takes on either No. 2 Glastonbury or No. 3 Norwalk in the state final on Saturday at Wethersfield at a time to be announced.

Greenwich is looking for its fourth title in the last seven years, having won championships in 2005, 2006 and 2009.
