Greenwich Academy, Brunswick School Announce Commencement Speakers

Both ceremonies will be held in a little over two weeks.

GREENWICH, CT — Two of Greenwich's prestigious private schools will 2017 commencement celebrations the week of May 15, and have tapped special speakers for the events.

United States Attorney Deirdre Daly will deliver the keynote speech at the 190th commencement at Greenwich Academy on Thursday, May 18, according to school officials. the

Daly is the first woman to hold the post of U.S. Attorney for the State of Connecticut, a position she assumed in May 2013.

Prior to that, Daly served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney during which time she assisted in the oversight of both the Criminal and Civil Divisions, and from 1985 to 1997, she was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. There she prosecuted a wide range of cases from racketeering and murder to corruption and fraud, and later served as the Assistant-In-Charge of White Plains Office for three years.

"I first met Ms. Daly when she spoke at a Greenwich YWCA event titled, ‘Why Words Still Matter’ honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.," said Head of School Molly King in a statement. "I was impressed by her intellect and her commitment to helping others. She has made it her life’s work to fight for what is good and right, and I can’t think of a better role model for our seniors as they look ahead to college and career."

At Brunswick School, Stephen Duennebier, who is retiring as assistant Head of the Upper School and director of Student Services, will give the graduation address on Wednesday, May 17, reports the Greenwich Time.

Duennebier is retiring after 38 years with the school, where he has taught, coached, and orchestrated student shows, among other duties.
