GREENWICH, CT — Though nearly two days have passed since the polls closed on Election Day, Democratic incumbent Alex Kasser was finally able to celebrate Thursday afternoon after Republican candidate Ryan Fazio called to congratulate her on winning the race for the 36th Senate District seat.

In a statement on Twitter, Fazio thanked the thousands of voters in the district, which encompasses Greenwich and parts of Stamford and New Canaan, who cast their vote for him.

"I called Alex Kasser today to congratulate her on her win and wish her well in her second term," Fazio said in his statement. "After a hard-fought race and very, very close election, our result came up just 1% short of a majority."

The results for this race were delayed due to a lengthy tally of absentee ballots in Stamford, a process that took until Thursday to complete, according to the Greenwich Time.

Fazio noted he and his supporters made "enormous strides" during the campaign, resulting in a close race.

"No matter the outcome," Fazio said, "I count myself a very lucky man for all the support I received, the great new friends I made, and the love of my family."
