Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei has announced he will seek reelection to a fifth term as the town’s chief elected official.
Tesei said he would make the formal announcement at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Greenwich Republican Town Committee. He will be joined on the Republican ballot with Selectman John Toner who was appointed in January to complete the term of Dave Theis who unexpectedly passed away Dec. 23.

The 46-year-old Tesei said he enjoys conducting the work of the town for the benefit of its residents and looks forward to seeing several key projects come to fruition in the next two years. In the 2013 election, Tesei handily beat his Democratic opponent Beth Krumeich by capturing 72 percent of the vote.
“I’ve enjoyed serving the community. It’s been a really fulfilling experience to have initiated very important tangible projects in town, improving customer service that the organization provides to residents and focusing on the community while retaining the residential character of the town,” Tesei said.

Tesei said, “My vision for Greenwich is to keep it primarily a residential community that is a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.” He added, “And to work on the infrastructure, life safety and public-private partnerships that provide so many nice amenities for the town.”
If reelected to a fifth two-year term on Nov. 3, Tesei will become only the second first selectman to serve five terms. Republican John Margenot is the only other First Selectman who served five terms until 1995.
Democratic Selectman Drew Marzullo has not announced whether he will seek a fourth term. He did return a request for comment Wednesday night.
Democratic Town Committee Chair Frank Farricker said that his party intends to field a full slate of candidates for the fall election. Farricker also denied rumors that he would challenge Tesei, saying that he doesn’t have the time to commit to the position as his real estate business is flourishing.
