Greenwich Football Routed By New London
Cardinals surrender 26 points in second half and suffer a 51-33 loss to the Whalers, falling to 2-1

After opening the season with a pair of wins, the Greenwich football team received a rude awakening Friday from a power located at the eastern end of the state.
Kyle McKinnon rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns as New London pulled away in the second half to defeat the Cardinals 51-33 at Cardinals Stadium.
New London quarterback Robert Key passes more than 300 yards and three touchdowns for the Whalers (2-0), who actually trailed 26-25 at halftime of a wild game.

New London's defense also got into the act, returning two interceptions for touchdowns.

Shane Nastahowski rushed for nearly 100 yards for the Cardinals (2-1), who took a 26-25 halftime lead when cornerback Ryan Kelly returned an interception 105 yards.
However, New London took the lead for good when Doug Henton brought an interception back 45 yards for a score. Kyle McKinnon then scored on a 25-yard TD run, giving New London a 39-26 lead.
Key tossed a 14-yard TD pass to Javon Elmore and Elmore returned an interception 34 yards for a TD to break it open.
