April 4, 2019 (GREENWICH, CT) Lauren Mahr has always loved horses. In fact, she began riding at age 5 in Greenwich while attending Cos Cob School. And she was a natural — as were her mother, sister, cousin, and aunt; riding is in their DNA. Her long-term affection for the sport and wellness at large spurred her growing online business, The Fit Equestrian (www.thefitequestrian.com), which delivers a winning combination of relevant information, fitness and nutrition programs tailored to the equestrian athlete, and a selection of branded merchandise.

Lauren rode consistently until fifth grade, then detoured into ballet, aware that riding could put her dancing at risk. She danced pre-professionally in Manhattan during her years at Greenwich High School, but stopped due to various injuries. As a freshman at University of Delaware, Lauren returned to her riding roots by joining the equestrian team, though had lost some time in the saddle. She soon realized that by strengthening specific muscle groups used for riding, she could improve quickly. Lauren attributed her newfound strength and college riding prowess to a specialized fitness routine and focused nutrition. Enter The Fit Equestrian (TFE).

“Lauren has approached the building of her brand much like she has with building her riding skills. She has consistently exhibited dedication and perseverance to achieve her goals of high standards in everything she does. Her hard work and attention to detail has paid off in a successful business and in the Adult Amateur division,” Brooke Brown, Owner/Trainer, Brownstone Farm.

Founded in 2017, TFE has morphed from a college student’s side gig to a full-blown niche business; it encompasses fitness programs, grocery guides, a spot on blog, and line of merchandise with the catchy tagline, “Trust Me, It’s a Sport.” Lauren has successfully parlayed her B.S. in Applied Nutrition, certification as a personal trainer (via the National Academy of Sports Medicine), and experience as an Adult Amateur rider to offer tailored programs to equestrians everywhere. It’s a formula that’s given even the most experienced riders a competitive edge.

“I became more interested in health, fitness, and nutrition my senior year of high school. When I started riding again and going to the gym around the same time, I realized the connection between the two. I wanted to share this experience with other riders,” said Lauren.

After a Celiac Disease diagnosis, Lauren committed to a gluten-free diet and became especially interested in sports nutrition. Her penchant for healthy eating translated well to assisting others via The Fit Equestrian. Customers can purchase digital booklets outlining varied fitness programs, such as the “Equitation Bootcamp Program,” or others honing in on one’s core, upper body, or lower leg strength. Riders seeking nutritional advice can choose and benefit from TFE’s “Grocery Guide” or “Show Day Meal Plan” offerings. And the accompanying horse lovers’ product line ranges from a canvas tote, to attractive t-shirts, a baseball hat, zip pouch, and selection of stickers.

The Fit Equestrian has not gone unnoticed by fans and the media alike. The business has a definite social media identity with an Instagram following 23.6K strong, nearly 700 Facebook followers, a solid Twitter and Pinterest presence, and dedicated blog readers. Lauren’s brainchild even caught the attention of The New Yorker in a recent piece that gave a shout out to one of her popular t-shirts. Features have also run in The Plaid Horse, Equestrian Life and Style, The Road to Pro, Street to Stable, Westphalian Dreamer and Northeast Equestrian Life.

Lauren will highlight her business with a pop up shop at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, 3400 Equestrian Club Drive, Wellington, FL, during the Equestrian Sports Production Spring Series from April 10th-14th. She welcomes riders and visitors alike to connect with her at the show: her location is by Oasis, across from the International Schooling Ring. Equestrian Sports Production is also known for managing the industry favorite, Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). The Fit Equestrian is sponsoring all of the annual series run by Equestrian Sport Productions to include Spring, Summer, Fall, and Holiday. In addition to her appearances, Lauren continues to hone her own skills on her horse, Bryant Park (a.k.a. “Texas”), at Brownstone Farm in Oxford, Pennsylvania.

“The pop up shop is an exciting opportunity as we’ll be able to spread awareness about the importance of equestrian fitness to an international crowd. It’s my goal for TFE to continue to grow; I’m amazed at how many equestrians we’ve been able to help reach their goals in the saddle so far, in such a short time,” said Lauren.

Entrepreneur, health enthusiast, and Greenwich’s own Lauren Mahr is a blue ribbon winner beyond her sport; at just 21 she’s a CEO, who has not only filled an industry need, but continues to thrive in her mission to bring healthy habits to riders everywhere. Best of all, The Fit Equestrian’s results resonate — Trust her.
