Greenwich High School Ranked Among Best In CT: U.S. News

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich High School is among the top public high schools in the state, according to a new ranking recently released by U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News reviewed 25,000 schools and ranked 17,680 of them, including 206 in Connecticut.

GHS is ranked ninth in Connecticut. Nationally, GHS is ranked 351st, the report says.

Schools were judged and ranked on six factors: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate.

"We are very proud of all the amazing accomplishments by our students and staff during the 2022-2023 school year, and we are excited to see what they will accomplish in 2023-2024," said Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones in a statement to Patch.

"[GHS Principal] Ralph Mayo, his administrative team, and every Greenwich High School staff member are dedicated and committed to the process of educating all of our students to the highest levels of academic achievement."

Notably, GHS ranked fourth in Connecticut in state assessment performance: how aggregated scores on state assessments compare with U.S. News' expectations given the proportions of students who are Black, Hispanic and from low-income households

In Connecticut, the top high school is Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern in Groton, followed by Staples High School in Westport.

Marine Science is ranked 211th nationally, and Staples is ranked 240th.

The other Fairfield County schools in the top 10 in Connecticut besides Greenwich and Staples are Darien High School (fourth), Weston High School (sixth) and New Canaan High School (eighth).

The top high school in the U.S. is The Early College at Guilford in Greensboro, N.C.
